Match Reports Round-up
Jaguars 1 Cougars 0
The Jaguars got off to a flying start - they were straight on the offensive with Roger putting balls in the box and through balls for Lawrence.  The team had to make do without Tyrone and Victor, but with Saner in goal, Billy, Kazim and Abner in defence, Lawrence and David in midfield, and Roger upfront they could still come away with a win.
Lawrence and Roger were passing the ball nicely around and Niven in the Cougars goal was saving a lot of Lawrence's shots but suddenly the Cougars defence was broken - Alex charged Roger, leaving a gap, and Lawrence took advantage of the mistake running through unmarked to the goal.  His pace was too quick and his shot too powerful for Niven.
After that the Cougars went on the offensive but with Lawrence, Billy, Roger, Abner and Kazim all back it was going to be tough to break down the defence.
Winning as they were, the Jaguars sat back at half-time.  For the Cougars, Jeremy finally broke the Jaguars defence but quick reactions from Saner kept it out for a corner.  By now the final whistle was not far away. Lawrence almost scored an own goal which could have drawn the match but it went out for another corner.  It was late pressure on the Jaguars but it came too late, it was over, the Jaguars had won.
After a break for the National Tournament and Easter, it was good to be back in the park again, and enjoying the sunshine we came to expect last year.  Long may it continue!

The "Big Cats" league is looking like it could go right down to the wire.  Will goal difference be crucial?  The excellent defensive record of the Jaguars (3 goals conceded in 7 games) gives them the edge here.   The Leopards play the Tigers in Week 8 and the Jaguars in Week 10, so it's going to be interesting.  A first win for the Cheetahs today shows how competitive this league is getting (in the best sense).

A repeat of their Week 5 win over the Falcons gave the Eagles a five point cushion at the top of the "Birds of Prey" league.  They could clinch the title next week.  But what a tussle for second place!  The Hawks had a storming 9-1 victory to move up into third spot, and next week they take on the Falcons knowing that another win would mean they overtake them.  The Falcons have been under-strength lately, and should be fielding one or two new players next week.   The Ospreys returned to winning form against the Kites to give manager Mark his first "win double" since Week 1.
