Match Report - 13th March 2004
Mitcham 1 Colliers Wood Wild Cats 2
A great result in our first eleven-a-side match. A more detailed report may be available later (if someone submits one) but the way I saw it was like this - a lot of pressure from Mitcham in the first half, but solid defending kept them out. A swift counter-attack caught their defence on the hop, and a fantastic shot from Sheldon from a long way out gave their keeper no chance as the ball rocketed into the top right corner of the goal.
The second half was similar, with our defence holding out against sustained pressure from the Mitcham attack. With only a few minutes left on the clock, Mitcham's efforts were at last rewarded and the ball was in the Colliers Wood net. However, our boys hadn't come this far to be content with a 1-1 scoreline, and went straight on the attack from the kick-off. The penalty area was by now pretty muddy from the hailstorm midway through the half, and the ball difficult to control, and from a crowded area Jeremy sent the ball through their keeper's hands and into the top of the net. A minute or so later, the whistle went for full-time to seal a famous victory.
