Match Reports - 28th February 2004
Kites 2 Kestrels 3
This was a terrific game of football with both teams showing full commitment and plenty of skill.
A quick clearance from defence found Matham clear, good control and a splendid finish put Kestrels one up.
Sustained pressure followed by the Kites, which led to a handball in the Kestrels penalty area. Kites captain Alex slotted the penalty home with great confidence.
The Kestrels regrouped and some clever passing set Ciaran through and that was 2-1 to the Kestrels.
You could not keep the Kites down and following one of his many runs down the right wing, Tommy equalised to make it 2-2 at half-time.
The second half continued in the same vein with both teams attacking strongly but the defences holding firm.
The Kites got a free kick from just outside the penalty area, and it looked like Tommy had scored again, but Ashley tipped it over the crossbar.
Kestrels attacked and Ciaran picked up a loose ball and with a first time shot got his second and the winning goal for the Kestrels.
Eagles 0 Hawks 0
Some excellent teamwork, and solid defending, saw the Hawks get their first clean sheet and earn a well-earned point. The Kestrels victory earlier meant it wasn't enough to get them off the bottom of the table, but if they keep up this standard, they should be tasting victory soon.
Ospreys 1 Falcons 2
With the game poised at 1-1, Luke in the Falcons goal produced a contender for Save of the Season, tipping the ball over the bar to deny the Ospreys attack. More solid defending followed, and it looked as though the match would end as a draw, but Andrew scored his second for the Falcons a minute or so before full-time, and there was no time for the Ospreys to come back. Josue was the scorer for the Ospreys.
All in all a cracking weekend for the "Birds of Prey" league.
