Colliers Wood Little League Football
Newsletter No.2 June 2003
Trials/Team Selection Days
These are being held on:
June 28th
July 5th
July 12th
Please make an extra effort to arrive before 10 o'clock, as we need to give every child his or her own number to wear.
We want to make the teams as evenly matched as possible, so everyone who plays on these dates should be selected.
Successful or what?!
So far we've been in the Recreation Ground on 12 Saturdays, and the sun has shone every time!
In total, 100 children have come along at least once. The most we've had at once is 48, but we expect this record to be broken next week (and again the following week!)
Kits
Thanks to the Scarman Trust and the Colliers Wood Residents Association, we have funds to purchase kits (shirts, shorts and socks). Please look after them, and return them in good condition at the end of the season.
Every child should wear shin-pads. (This is an FA rule.)
We recommend boots rather than trainers. If you've got spare pairs of boots that your children have outgrown, why not let us have them so we can pass them on to another child?
Diary Dates
Our next meeting is on Monday 7th July, 7.30pm at Colliers Wood Community Centre. All welcome.
If you want to see the minutes from our previous meeting, on 9th June, or our inaugural meeting on 28th April, someone will have copies available on most Saturday mornings.
The Little League Concept
A reminder of why Little League Football is so special:
What's happening next?
From September, we plan a full soccer programme of League and Cup fixtures through the football season with proper pitches and goals and kit.
But when the Managers have chosen the teams, they may run some pre-season warm-up games or training sessions, so the Recreation Ground will still be buzzing through August!
Fund-raising
The money from the Scarman Trust has got the League up and running, but there will be on-going costs, such as insurance, replacing worn-out kits, lost or damaged equipment and even printing newsletters.
If anyone has any great ideas for fund-raising, we'd love to hear them.
Family membership will be available soon.
Playing for pleasure is more important than winning at all costs
