April 2003
Dear Parents,
We do hope your son or daughter has been enjoying the football over the last few weeks. This is just a taster of what we hope to do in future ... so please read on!
The Residents Association
The move to start Little League Football is thanks to your local Residents' Association. They received a grant of £1800 from the Scarman Trust to cover the cost of coaching, equipment and kit. They are now working in partnership with the Little League Football organisation together with Surrey Football Association to ensure the success of the venture.
Any dates to watch?
Three to diarise so far. We won't be playing on Easter Saturday 19th April and on May 17th the Residents Association hold their Children's Activity Day at the Community Centre in the High Street from 10 am. For the third date, please read on.
Can anyone join?
All local children between 7 and 11 are welcome - just come along with a parent, fill in a joining form and start playing. Please tell your neighbours.
All Mums and Dads are welcome too, because we need you to cheer on the kids, and also help run it. We can guarantee you'll enjoy yourself, so please volunteer to help run a team, or the tuck shop, or whatever.
We are holding a volunteers meeting at 7.30 pm on Monday 28th April at the Community Centre in the High Street. Do please come.
What is Little League Football?
It's a special child-friendly football organisation. There are over 30 Leagues - the biggest one is in Morden where 700 boys and girls play every Saturday. It's special, because of ......
The Concept
Boys and girls of all abilities are welcome to join
Every child plays every week
The pitches, balls and goals are the right size for the children
All games are in Colliers Wood Recreation Ground - there's no travelling
We emphasise enjoyment, team spirit and sportsmanship
We don't charge the girls and boys to play.
What's coming next??
Clearly a lot of kids want to play football in Colliers Wood. So the football sessions will continue on Saturday mornings while we build up numbers. In the summer, we will put the players into teams, and from September we are planning a full soccer programme of League and Cup fixtures through the football season with proper pitches and goals and kit.
Playing for pleasure is more important than winning at all costs
